Team AT at Johnstons of Elgin, Hawick division.
Alasdair and Fraser from the AT team were delighted to join Johnstons of Elgin for the official opening of their new 950m² production facility – a project that’s been close to our hearts and one we’re proud to have designed.
It was a pleasure to catch up with the wider project team and see the building come to life, now being used by the people it was designed for. A key part of the brief was to link the historic 1882 B-listed mill with a new, modern extension – transforming a former car park into a welcoming entrance and significantly enhancing the visitor experience.
As part of the £1.6m project, natural sandstone was used to bridge old and new, anchoring the extension to its historic context. The contemporary elements – including sleek insulated metal cladding, cantilevered canopies, and sharp detailing – reflect the evolving direction of the site. This contrast is continued in the new building’s basecourse of natural sandstone and finished with powder-coated cappings at the head of the façade walls on either side.
Johnstons of Elgin has been one of our long-standing clients, and it’s been a real privilege to support them across multiple projects over the years. This latest addition marks another exciting chapter in their story – and we’re proud to have played a part in it.
“I was incredibly proud to contribute to such a meaningful local project and to witness firsthand the positive impact the completed extension had on both the company and its employees.”
