Macmillan Health & Wellbeing Campus, Altnagelvin Hospital

The first Health & Wellbeing Campus in Northern Ireland, this information and support hub acts as a gateway to cancer services across the Western Trust.

The Macmillan Health & Wellbeing Campus comprises the New Information and Support Centre and a refurbished Agnes Jones House.  The two buildings are linked by an external landscaped courtyard with an art programme extending across both buildings and the courtyard.

The new Information and Support Centre is a single storey triangular plan, centred around a central hub space.  The intention was to provide a contemporary, non-institutional space for the delivery of complementary therapies, information and support for those living with Cancer and their families.  The plan minimises corridors and complicated wayfinding and provides a welcoming comfortable sequence of spaces.

The refurbished Agnes Jones House provides large meeting spaces and staff accommodation for clinical and support staff.  The external fabric was repaired and conserved and the interiors were fully refurbished utilising the same material and colour palette as the new building.

A coordinated art programme based on the life and works of Agnes Jones, a contemporary of Florence Nightingale and the Irish meaning of Altnagelvin – Hill of the Sparrows  – connects the Campus through photography, digital light-boxes and sculpture.
