Palliative Care Centre, Perth

A new Palliative Care Centre providing an exceptional environment for patient care and well-being in the grounds of Perth Royal Infirmary.

Situated in beautiful gardens with a variety of colourful plants and flowers, the care centre features environmentally sourced timber-cladding, two balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows that bring sunlight deep into the building.

Positioned at the top of a sloping Perth Royal Infirmary site, the challenging plateau location required an efficient and well-designed building to meet the requirements of the client.

The new palliative care centre is built over two storeys and clearly organised into patient accommodation, public spaces and staff areas. The intention is for the building to be simple and clear to navigate and use.

Patient care and well-being are key considerations in this project and manifest through a softening material palette and attention to detail. A timber canopy reaches over the entrance space, blurring the point at which you cross the threshold and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Through the entrance and reception, visitors are greeted by a large waiting area with access to a green south-facing courtyard.
