A purpose built centre having a 36 place school for children with autism; a National Research Centre, Autism Advisory Centre; Training Centre and administration facilities.
A covered entrance 'drop off point' leads to a wide glazed street which runs the length of the building. The street is intended to be used for displaying work and as an extension of the teaching rooms. The 'gull wing' roofs have been developed to encourage as much natural light as possible deep into the building. This type of school is unique to northern Britain.
