The Practice was formed in 1959 on the amalgamation of two long established firms, the older one, J. P. Alison, having been founded in 1887.

The head office of Aitken Turnbull is in Galashiels, with other offices in Hawick, Duns, Dumfries and Edinburgh. The organisation works together as an integrated whole, with multi-discipline services available through all. Full use is made of modern technology to provide effective communications between offices, including E-mail and modem links between CAD networks.
